This is a good resource focused on the needs (and expectations) of immigrants. Though it's only six years old, an update is already warranted. Some things that have changed:
1. Fees at the postal bank have gone from among the lowest to the highest. Basic operations such as paying through the app or withdrawing cash now cost 6.53 NIS a pop.
2. Opening an account is harder than ever. It's next to impossible for a student on a semester- or year-abroad program.
3. Transfering a large amount of money from an American bank (say, to buy a car or a home) is impossible without a letter from an American CPA intimate with your finances. (So if you've been preparing your own IRS returns, you're in a bad spot.) Fortunately, you can buy your food on an American credit card, so you won't starve.
4. Drastically restricted in-person access to branches, a measure taken during the Covid epidemic, appears to have become the permanent state of affairs.
